Remembering Richard Bogy: A Champion of History & the Campo de Cahuenga Reenactments

Richard Bogy

1961—2023

The Montebello Historical Society and the Reenactors mourn the passing of our friend of the Campo de Cahuenga reenactments, Richard Bogy, First Vice President of the Campo de Cahuenga Association. Richard Bogy passed away last August from cancer. He was the driving force behind the 65-year annual reenactment of the signing of the Treaty of Cahuenga at the Studio City site across Universal Studios. He "discovered" his very own Kathleen (aka Dona Lobo and Dona Bernada Ruiz) at the Pio Pico Mansion in Whittier on a sunny Sunday when she was docent there. The then park ranger took all the docents to the annual reenactment, beginning a some 20-year participation in that annual event.

A Champion of History & the Campo de Cahuenga Reenactments

Richard was literally "larger" than life. An expert on Early Los Angeles, we can still hear him talk about the exploits of Benito Wilson and of the Old Woman's Gun (which he wanted to get back to the southland from the Navy museum, which has it). He will be missed at the Campo reenactment. He was a friend of the reenactors who came to the Campo.
